Synergy Team Rider Allie Brown is not only a great surfer, but someone with a pure heart and solid ambition.  We thought it would be great to share some of what Allie is about in her own words, so we caught up with her between her busy school schedule to ask a few questions:

Hometown: Kona, HI

Current City: Encinitas, CA

Home Break: Grandview, Encinitas

Sponsors: Synergy, Sanuk

Occupation:  Sun Diego sales associate/student/model

S:  So you are on the San Diego State Surf Team.  Did you choose SDSU because of the team or more academic reasons?

A:  I chose SDSU more for academic reasons. I’m majoring in Journalism Media Studies with a Minor in Television film and SDSU had great programs offered in each so I thought it would be a perfect fit. I also chose SDSU because the weather in SD is probably as close I could get to the weather in Hawaii so I wouldn’t get completely home sick.

S:  You grew up in Hawaii (and live in San Diego).  What affect did living Island life have in your decision to be involved in surfing/extreme sports as a profession?

A:  Living in Hawaii taught me my love and respect for the ocean. In Kona, there really isn’t much to do besides go to the beach or play some other sport. I wasn’t really interested in other sports so I finally decided to follow in my older brother Casey’s footsteps and start surfing. I never consider it a profession and I probably never will. I will always think of it as something fun for me to do.

S:  What are your plans after graduation?

A:  After I graduate there are so many things that I want to do. I have never been out of the country so I really want to travel all over and just surf and have a good time before I have to buckle down and get a real job. I really want to go to Australia and Bali and South Africa.

S:  Looking at your sponsors, it seems you have an interest in environmental issues.  How do you think the industry as a whole is handling these issues?

A:  I think that the industry is really trying to head more in an environmentally direction. With all the hype of being environmentally friendly it is only necessary that the industry try to get on that bandwaggon too.  I just think that its great to see people trying.

S:  What’s the next contest we can catch you at?

A:  Next contest is probably NSSA collegiate nationals June 16. SDSU is going into the event as the #1 seed so it should be an exciting event!

S:  Any advice to the up and coming girls?

A:  Most of the younger girls already smoke me, so I think I should be taking advice from them!  Nah, but I would just tell them to stay focused in what they love and school is an option too.

S:  Burgers or Fish Tacos?

A:  I love burgers AND fish tacos, But right now I’m feelin’ like a nice Salad.

Thanks, Allie!
